As a means of connecting with those around us, communication is the basis of all relationships and communities. It’s how we portray ourselves, our idea, and our feelings. The importance of communication is undeniable, especially in a media-driven world where words and images hold more weight than ever before. It differs from other areas of humanities in that it is the most rapidly transforming field of study. Compared to other social sciences, communication studies adapts to social changes and technological advancements at a faster rate.
My personal experience with this concept began academically throughout college and continued on into my professional life. While pursuing my undergraduate degree, I wrote for the communications department magazine and utilized my fine arts background with various publication design and visual communication projects. This led me to an internship in marketing and communication, which then landed me in my current position working in higher education where I regularly create written and visual communication efforts to interact with prospective students.
